I am very interested in the elections, but unfortunately I don’t have time to follow the news regularly. Now in Mauritius, there is a lot of unemployment and this must change. Many people, both in the textile industry and labourers are not getting a fair deal. I don’t know who will be in power after the elections but I hope they will think for everyone. I mean, they should not give in to communalism. Mauritians are generally tolerant, but there are always some who will be more extremist.

As a Mauritian, I would have felt proud to vote, but unfortunately there are no facilities here. I miss the atmosphere, especially the political meetings and election day itself. There is a very special atmosphere in the country that does not exist anywhere else. I doubt that you have big rallies like in Mauritius in many other parts of the world.

However, when it comes to our politicians, they have much to learn from their counterparts in other countries. I would like to see them have a bit more respect for their political opponents. It seems to me that politicians are engaged in politics only for their own personal gains. The will to positively change the country is not there. I just hope that whoever comes to power after the elections thinks for the entire country, rich and poor.
