Australians in Mauritius and around the world will be celebrating Australia Day on 26th January. For the occasion, the Australian high commissioner, Ian McConville, and Ms Libby McCutchan will host a reception at their residence. Australia Day is the biggest celebration day in Australia and is observed as a bank holiday in all states and territories. On that day, the citizens “come together as a nation celebrate what’s great about Australia and being Australian. It’s the day to reflect on what they have achieved and what they can be proud of in our great nation. It’s the day for us to re-commit to making Australia an even better place for the future.” In communities across the nation, Australians take to the streets, parks and backyards to celebrate their land, people, heritage, diversity and freedom. A wide variety of events, both large and small are held, from the nationally televised Celebrate! Australia Day Live concert on 25th January in Canberra, to local breakfasts, barbecues, fireworks and sporting events.
