Sheila Bappoo (57): in charge of the Labour party women’s wing and candidate in constituency n°16. She has been minister for Women’s Rights, Child Development and Family Welfare as well as of Labour, Industrial Relations and Employment during her career. She started her political career as a municipal councilor in Beau-Bassin-Rose-Hill.

Ghislaine Henry (60): candidate for the Parti Mauricien Xavier Duval in constituency n°1. She is late Sir Gaëtan Duval’s sister and a long-standing member of Parti Mauricien Social Democrate (PMSD). When her candidature to become leader of the PMSD was rejected in 2001, she joined the PMXD.

Indira Seebun, (52): candidate for the Labour party in n° 10. She started politics in 1995 inspired by a speech of her leader, Navin Ramgolam. If she always had a penchant for Labour as her family has always supported the party, she came into active politics only recently. She stood as candidate in September 2000 but came out 5th, only 2,351 votes away from the last elected candidate.
