● Municipal police envisaged ? The mayor of Port-Louis, Reza Issack, is introducing the project of creating a municipal police to the ministry of Local government this week. In view of the numerous thefts and assaults in the capital, such a mobile police force will be very useful in the fight against violence. The central market, the cemeteries and municipal cash desks will be the main targets of this new squad.

● PM on official visit in China ? The prime minister, Navin Ramgoolam, is in China with a delegation of some fifty members of the private sector. Among the issues expected to be raised during this official visit: the improvement of harbour infrastructure, the extension of the airport terminal, the free port, the seafood hub, aquaculture, the Chinese participation in the financial sector and in wastewater management.
