War and Peace
Why do you despise your enemies?
They may be pleasing to God,
For reasons unknown to you.
Why do you alter truth
To fit to your ideas ?
Caught in the bait of greed,
Selfishness and lack of love,
You sent frail men
to the battlefield,
Where shadows of sin,
And confused alarm of struggle,
Are blended to make bleak despair.
Save a second’s thought
God is with the tiller,
Plodding with the plough,
In sun and in shower,
Making work his emancipation.
God is not with death-pale soldiers,
Clashing by night,
In dreariest battlefields.
God is with the sheperd,
Not with the ravenous wolves.
Conflict with your brother leads to destruction.
Are you serving your maker
By killing your brother ?
O man ! You have exercised your vital powers
Along the lines of excellence
Giving mankind full scope for development.
You have pulled walls, unified brothers,
Made temples, mosques, pagodas, palaces,
A home in space
Then invent that formula,
That will stop dreadful deeds
Making not man worn out in war.
Let tomorrow’s planet have a growing pattern
Where angels will not fear to tread.
Then only will the world be worthy
Of the flaming glory of Christ,
Who will come down uncrucified,
With cross dismantled.
