The toll of dead and missing from the December 26 Indian Ocean quake and tsunami stands at around 231,000, according to collated figures from government ministries.

More than $11.4 billion (6.4 billion pounds) has been raised to rebuild Indian Ocean countries after the December 26 earthquake and tsunami, which killed 231,452 people. It is more than enough to meet the estimated needs.

● UN says it was the most generous and most immediately funded international emergency relief effort ever.

● Total damages: $10.73 billion; rebuilding costs: 10.375 billion.

● Number of people displaced: 1.77 million

● Number of houses needed: 308,000; number built or under construction: 46,000

● Number of boats destroyed: 103,829; number of schools destroyed: more than 2,300

● Ratio of women and children killed to men: 3:1
