> How would you define "Les Colombes"? How did the idea come about?
Les Colombes is a peace network. For a while now a group of friends of different cultural & religious backgrounds have been meting from time to time to discuss various topics. The latest one was the rise of violence in the country. A member of our group sent a message via Internet and the enormous response we got was sufficient encouragement. We decided unanimously that we had to do something against the escalation of violence. Within 24 hours, the network was set up. We have short-term and long-term projects?
> What is "Les Colombes" aiming at exactly?
We want to bring back peace and security to this island that we all love so much.
> You are organising a procession in Port-Louis on 19th March. Could you tell us more about it?
The rendez-vous is at Champ de Mars at 6 p.m. We ask each and every Mauritian to join us with a candle and the national flag. We shall be walking towards the waterfront where we will hold a short concert (songs of peace and love).
> Why did you choose this specific day? Isn't it a bit far-off?
The organisation of such a big event takes time, especially if one wants it to be a success and we do, of course. As a matter of fact, we are waiting for the green light from the commissioner of police and other authorities concerned.
> To what extent, according to you, can such events influence people's behaviour? Do you believe it will reduce the number of crimes in Mauritius?
First of all, if we didn't believe our actions would bring a positive result, we would not go out of our way as we do. Our aim in organising this first event, the peaceful procession, is to make all Mauritians realise that we need to work at peace in our country. We count on the help of all to achieve our aim so that we can go ahead towards other long-term projects with the support of everyone.
