A special lane for queue-jumpers
Until recently people driving up the main road to work in Curepipe in the morning could congratulate themselves on their good-fortune as they looked pityingly at the slow-moving or not-moving-at-all queue going in the opposite direction down to Port-Louis. But not any more. For we now have our very own traffic-jam at the Phoenix roundabout. It has of course been building up for some time, but the situation has recently been complicated by the opening of a third lane on the left to provide access to the small industrial zone found there. A good idea, no doubt. The only problem is that, at peak hours, many drivers use this lane as a means of jumping the queue and pushing their way in at the front, thus infuriating all those disciplined and exemplary citizens who have been- more or less- patiently sitting in the queue for what seems like an age. Another recipe for disorder… and an open invitation to indiscipline.
