<B>Our first Africa Day in Chamarel</B>

While the world had reached its 42nd edition last 25th of May, Africa Day was celebrated for the first time in Mauritius this weekend. Festivities were held in Chamarel last Sunday. The first part of the day was devoted to exhibitions of typical African musical instruments and paintings… Children of Bambous School were all busy making different wooden sculptures. Some of them concentrated on a totem, which will be placed at the entrance of Chamarel in a few days. Then, a ‘food festival’ was organised with typical Mauritian dishes such as “cari zaco” (monkey curry). After official speeches, several musical groups followed one another but the peak of the day was definitely when Natir walked on stage in the afternoon.
