The story could look quite ?commonplace? in this day and age. Theft, violence ? even murder ? are becoming so common that we are hardly surprised when someone is killed for money. Yet, the murder of the Indian businessman, Mir Mujeeb, in Cap Malheureux last Monday is so macabre and violent that it has shocked every one of us. Four suspects have been arrested by the police, who are going on with the investigation.

Prabhakar Takah, a security guard from Gray Security Services, admitted being the brain behind this horrible crime in his statement to the police. After he was arrested, he gave the names of three other men: Ajay Dookee, a 29-year old head waiter, Digbeejaye Koonjul, a 35 year-old taxi driver and Sanjeeve Mungrah, a 28 year-old gardener.

Prabhakar Takah gave a lot of details about the way they killed his former boss. According to him, the taxi man came to the bungalow saying he was working for the alarm monitoring company of the bungalow. Then, while both of them were talking, the ?security guard? hit him violently on the head and gagged him with the help of Sanjeeve Mungrah. After taking the businessman?s credit cards, they put him in the car boot and took him to a sugarcane field. As he was still alive, the three suspects battered his head with big stones, ran over him with the car and finally put fire to the car . Ajay Dookee was waiting for them in another car.

After perpetrating their odious crime, they tried to take out money from his bank accounts but the pin number was incorrect and they were not able to do so. However, two mobiles belonging to the businessman were found on Prabhakar Takah.

As soon as the cleaning woman arrived in the bungalow, she saw that something was wrong. There was a terrible mess in the bungalow as well as traces of blood on the ?raphia? curtains as well as on the printer and the diary used by the security guard. The businessman was reported missing to the police, who launched a vast operation to search for him. In vain. It was an anonymous call which led them to the sugarcane field in La Salette where the car as well as the burnt body was found after a long search.

The families of the suspects are full of dismay?
