Sharon does not plan to resign after stroke
Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon said on Monday in his first broadcasted remarks since suffering a minor stroke a day earlier that he had no plans to quit his position anytime soon.
?I?ve already been at the front (of Israeli politics) for the past 60 years and I definitely plan to continue my job,? he told Israel?s Army Radio. The prime minister?s voice sounded normal. Sharon, battling for re-election after spearheading a pullout from Gaza, was rushed to hospital on Sunday night for a brain scan after saying he did not feel well. Doctors said he suffered a minor stroke but that his life was not in danger.
Sharon later told Israeli media that he felt ?fine? and Israeli media reported that he joked with his doctors. His office said the prime minister had slept soundly through the night and that his condition was ?good?. Sharon will undergo more medical tests and doctors would assess if he could be released from hospital later in the day, his office said. The doctors had previously said Sharon could expect to stay in hospital for three to four days.
