Second social report
British American Tobacco Mauritius has launched its second social report. Clairette Ah-Hen, a well-known figure in Corporate Governance, was the guest speaker. Social reporting is a way for a company to report on its own social and ethical performance. “The report represents our commitment to continuously embed BAT principles of corporate social responsibility,” Jean-Pierre Mamet, general manager, said in his speech. To make this report complete, BAT Mauritius met all the stakeholders of the company – consumers, retailers, opponents, employees… to make sure it would meet public expectations. “I would never encourage minors to smoke. However, it is everyone’s own responsibility to make the decision whether they should smoke or not. Every stakeholder has to take his own responsibility,” Naushad Ramoly, corporate and regulatory affairs manager says. BAT Mauritius is the only company to launch social reports so far but other companies should soon follow their initiative.
