<B> Ongoing discussions at UoM</B> ? After more than a week of mess at the university of Mauritius, the situation seems to have calmed down? At least for the moment. After meeting the vice-chancellor, Indur Fagoonee, and the minister of Education, Dharam Gokhool, the students have agreed to postpone their sit-in to next Monday in case they are still not satisfied with the negotiations. Discussions are ongoing to find an acceptable solution. Students and lecturers have already obtained that there would be not courses delivered in Octave Wiehe auditorium and Raized Plaza. A committee will also work on the issue of group dissertations. However, the students have maintained their sit-in to make sure the authorities abide by their commitments and give them written evidence of their negotiations.

<B> Computer is still a luxury</B> ? Despite the island?s ambitions to be a cyber island, the computer has not reached out to every Mauritian yet? Far from it! Information technology remains a vague issue for about 63% of Mauritians aged over 12 years old, according to a report by the Central Statistics Office. The computer is still considered as a luxury product, as the report reveals that only 24.2% of households have a computer and only 16.6% are connected to the Internet. Moreover, the computer appears to be a relevant tool for young people but it remains unknown to many people aged 40 years old and over.

<B> Hawkers want to resume work </B> ? Hawkers want to get a place where they can do their trade. They had to leave their stalls in front of Life Insurance Corporation of India because of complaints made by the Indian High Commission as well as another foreign embassy. Sixteen hawkers were even arrested but they were released on bail quite rapidly. They are provisionally charged with illegal public gathering. Hawkers have agreed to move from the LIC building but they are now asking for a place where they can resume work immediately.
