■ RACE 1 ? Sun King, Red Indian and Stephen Jones were slow to begin, all losing about one length. Upon jumping Awanago shifted in, crowding Red Indian which had to be steadied. Shortly after the start Social Guest had to be steadied when awkward between Major League and Pardon A Prince which was carried in by Awanago. At an inquiry into this incident, jockey Bussunt (Awanago) pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 161 (c) for careless riding and in relation to penalty requested a suspension in lieu of a fine. As such, he was suspended from riding in races for the next race meeting. Approaching the 1200 metres Stephen Jones was awkward when racing tight on the inside of Sun King. Shortly after this, Sun King had to be checked off the heels of Major League which was shifting in. As a result of this, Sun King shifted in further inconveniencing Stephen Jones which had to be checked. At an inquiry into this incident, jockey Orffer pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 161 (c) for careless riding. He was fined Rs.20,000. Passing the 400 metres Social Guest lay in, crowding Intrusion. Rounding the home turn Intrusion had to be steadied by a tiring Special K and was then taken to the outside of Special K.

■ RACE 2 ? Lone Star Park was fractious in barriers and broke through, was quickly reigned in and took its place in the field. When the gates opened Barrister reared and lost considerable ground. Trainer V. Allet was told that this horse must pass a barrier trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards before being allowed to race again. The Stewards questioned trainer B. Gujadhur in relation to the declared weight of Gold Guild taken by the MTC employee compared to its previous run on the 28th of April. As Mr. Gujadhur was unable to explain the reported weight drop of Gold Guild, the Stewards ordered that Gold Guild be re-weighed. Upon re-weighing, Gold Guild was found to weigh 528Kg compared to the previously reported weight of 435Kg. Droplet jumped outwards and was slow to begin, losing about one length. Lone Star Park raced wide in the early and middle stages. Jockey Joorawon pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 161 (c) for careless riding, the particulars being that at the 600 metres he allowed his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of Green Scheme which clipped its heels and blundered. In turn, In Her Honour, which was following, had to be steadied, at the same time Gold Guild, which was racing on the inside of Green Scheme, had to be steadied and In A Heart Beat, which was following, had to be steadied also. Jockey Joorawon was suspended from riding in races for one race meeting and fined Rs.20,000. Approaching the 400 metres Almahab steadied when awkward on the inside of Green Scheme, which was shifting ground after its bridle had been dislodged. In Her Honour raced wide rounding the home turn. Jockey Herholdt, rider of Gold Guild, pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 158 (5) in that he failed to ride his mount out to the finish. He was fined Rs.5,000. The Club?s Veterinary Surgeon reported that Lone Star Park and Green Scheme were suffering from a deep cut to their off fore pastern. Trainers P. Merven and G. Rousset were told their respective horse will need a veterinary certificate of fitness before being allowed to race again.

■ RACE 3 ? Weekender and Slivovitz were slow to begin. Shortly after the start Woden was steadied to take a position at the rear of the field in accordance with his instructions. When being steadied Woden threw its head. For some distance approaching the 1600 metres Woden was awkward when close to the heels of Rambo Rouge. Slivovitz over-raced in the middle stages. For some distance approaching the 800 metres Keen To Win over-raced. Approaching the 75 metres Keen To Win commenced to lay in, crowding Rambo Rouge. Jockey Woodworth (Keen To Win) stopped riding and pulled his whip to the right hand. Shortly after this, Rambo Rouge continued to shift in, crowding Cameron James which then had to be steadied and was then taken to the outside of Rambo Rouge to continue to go forward. Rambo Rouge continued to lay in for the remainder of the race. Jockey Herholdt, rider of Rambo Rouge, pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 158 (5) in that he failed to ride his mount out to the finish. He was fined Rs.5,000. The Club?s Veterinary Surgeon reported that Slivovitz was slightly lame on the off fore leg. In view of this, trainer R. Maingard was told that this horse will need a veterinary certificate of soundness before being allowed to race again.

■ RACE 4 ? At the start National Manner which was leaning on the right side of the gate, was slow out, losing considerable ground. Coronation Cup and Sugar Baron were slow to begin. Rounding the home turn National Manner steadied when awkward between Flying Telegraph and Midnite Mass. The Stewards questioned Mr. S. Henry and jockey P. Whitmore in relation to the running of Champ In Action. Mr. Henry explained that his instructions were to jump well and obtain the rails, if possible, in a mid-field position and wait for the cutaway rail. Jockey Whitmore explained he was able to follow the instructions, then approaching the home turn he elected to shift to the outside of Road To Jerusalem to go forward, however Road To Jerusalem came off the rail, he then elected to steady and take the run on the inside of Road To Jerusalem. However, shortly after changing course and after putting pressure on his mount, he lost the use of his off side iron and after initially trying to re-gather his iron, as he was then in the home straight he elected to ride his mount out instead of continuing to try to re-gather his iron. After consideration, jockey Whitmore (Champ In Action) was found guilty under Rule 161 (c) for riding in an incompetent manner, the particulars being that after taking his mount to the inside of Road To Jerusalem, he then put pressure on his mount and shortly after, without any apparent justification, he lost the use of his right side iron which then placed him at a disadvantage in riding his mount out. Jockey Whitmore was subsequently fined Rs.25,000.

■ RACE 5 ? At the start Elizondo jumped inwards, Jumpin Joshua jumped outwards and Cable Guy was slow to begin. Shortly after the start Jumpin Joshua and Elizondo came together. Jockey Woodworth (Heliotrope) pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 161 (c) in that approaching the 1200 metres he carelessly allowed his mount to shift in, crowding Jumpin Joshua onto Mister Assembly, the latter losing its rightful running. Jockey Woodworth was fined Rs.25,000. Rounding the home turn, Gold Bid had to be steadied when disappointed for a run between Jumpin Joshua and Heliotrope and was then taken to the inside of Jumpin Joshua to continue race forward. Jockey Herholdt (Jumpin Joshua) was cautioned for allowing his mount to shift ground.

■ RACE 6 ? The Club?s Veterinary Surgeon reported that Innkeeper was lame. Consequently, the horse was withdrawn at 8 a.m. today. As a result, all bets on this horse were ordered to be refunded and betting with bookmakers was re-opened. Trainer V. Allet was told that Innkeeper will need a veterinary certificate of soundness before being allowed to race again. Command Centre jumped awkwardly. Royal Crusader was slow to begin. Shortly after the start Vampire Jet and Wolfe Tone came together. Jockey Woodworth (Wolfe Tone) pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 161 (c), the particulars being that near the 1200 metres he carelessly allowed his mount to shift in, causing Blackwatch to be checked. Jockey Woodworth was fined Rs.25,000. Approaching the 100 metres Promise Keeper had to be taken to the inside of Blackwatch to continue to go forward. At the 50 metres Blackwatch had to be checked when awkward between Promise Keeper and Horn Beam which was carried in when Emjaybee hung in. Approaching the winning post Vampire Jet, which was laying in, shifted ground and made contact with Emjaybee. The Stewards inquired into the running and handling of Promise Keeper, evidence was taken from Trainer S. Henry and jockey P. Whitmore. Mr. Henry explained that from barrier one he instructed jockey Whitmore to endeavour to jump well, maintain a forward position on the rails without pushing too hard then to save his horse for the cutaway rail. He added that the gelding was having his third start for him with his first two runs being disappointing and, although showing some improvement in recent trackwork, his stable was not confident and the gelding was not supported. Jockey Whitmore confirmed these instructions and explained that he enjoyed a good run in fourth position on the rails in the early stages and although there was an opportunity to improve to the outside of Pipeline at the 500 metres he elected to stay on the rails and save ground in accordance with his instructions, then on straightening he attempted to come on the inside of Blackwatch to continue going forward, however was in some difficulty as Promise Keeper was inclined to lay out and, at the same time, Blackwatch was shifting in under pressure, as such he only secured clear running on the inside of Blackwatch approaching the 100 metres after which his mount ran on well to secure second placing. After consideration, the Stewards decided to proceed no further with the inquiry, however jockey Whitmore was warned to ride all his mounts in such a manner as to leave no room for query.

■ RACE 7 ? Royal Dome reared at start. Sideliner was slow to begin. Shortly after the start Catullus rolled in, crowding Salute The Star onto Golden Millenium. At the 1400 metres, Supreme Mission and Catullus came together. At the 800 metres, Supreme Mission steadied off the heels of Bang On Time which in turn was awkward on the heels of Golden Millenium. At the 600 metres, Catullus, which was awkward on the heels of Imperious Caesour, rolled in, crowding Supreme Mission. Over the concluding stages, Bang On Time had some difficulty in obtaining clear running between Golden Millenium and Jazz King. The Stewards questioned Trainer H. Maigrot in relation to the improved performance of Salute The Star. He explained that this gelding, at his last start, was unsuited by the rain affected conditions and since then had shown some overall improvement. He added that with the benefit of the increased distance and racing in a lower rating range, he expected an improved performance, however the gelding was only moderately supported by stable connections.

■ RACE 8 ? Got The Pace was slow to begin. National Trust raced wide early. Jockey Whitmore (Dougan) was found guilty of a charge under Rule 161 (c) in that approaching the 1600 metres he carelessly allowed his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of Real Schlep, causing that horse to lose its rightful running. Jockey Whitmore was fined Rs.20,000. Marrakesh over-raced in the middle stages and lay in on the home turn.
