<B>RACE 1 – THE SHADARI CUP</B>

At the start Guzerat and Sir Winston were slow out, both losing about one length. Approaching the 1200 metres Spinning Honor and Dutori were slightly inconvenienced when Music Master shifted in. Jockey Mahadia was shown the video of the incident and told to exercise more care when shifting ground. Near the 1150 metres Music Master was taken out slightly by Chikadee and had to be eased off the heels of Khedive. Spinning Honor raced wide throughout. Near the 350 metres, Guzerat, which was racing fiercely, was momentarily taken out off the heels of National Lore and taken back in. Sir Winston, which was following, was slightly inconvenienced and had to be steadied. Near the 250 metres Dutori was inconvenienced and had to be steadied off the heels of Music Master which was taken out off the heels of Khedive for a clear run. At the 150 metres Guzerat was taken out for a clear run off the heels of National Lore. Passing the 150 metres, Khedive shifted in and Teddy’s Last shifted out resulting in the latter being inconvenienced over a short distance. Over the final 100 metres Chikadee had a tendency to hang in and, shortly before the winning post, shifted in, resulting in Link-Up having to be steadied.

Routine urine specimens were taken for analysis from Surfing Award prior to the race and from Chikadee and Surfing Award after the race.

<B>RACE 2 – THE CHINTAMUN GUJADHUR CUP</B>

At the start Jet Propelled was slow out, losing about one length and Golden Days jumped outwards. Passing the 1200 metres Sun Blast was slightly cramped for room between Muhta’s Dancer and Jet Propelled. Near the 1100 metres, Bang On Time was slightly cramped for room between Golden Days and Ashton Manor and had to be steadied. Dick Dastardly raced wide throughout. The Veterinary Surgeon reported that Sun Blast suffered a bruised near side hip. In view of this, trainer Ramesh Gujadhur was advised that this horse will need a veterinary certificate of fitness before being allowed to race again.

Routine urine specimens were taken for analysis from Bang On Time, Sun Blast and Jet Propelled prior to the race and from Ashton Manor after the race.

<B>RACE 3 – THE RAOUL ROCHECHOUSTE CUP</B>

Mudslide Slim was unruly in its stall. At the start Imperious Caesour half-reared, was slow out, losing about one length. Mudslide Slim jumped outwards brushing Golden Rambo and Blue Bush jumped inwards. Passing the 1300 metres, Game Lodge, which was racing fiercely, had to be steadied off the heels of Golden Rambo and Crimson Gown which was following, was slightly inconvenienced and had to be steadied. Game Lodge raced fiercely from the 1500 to the 600 metres and near the 100 metres had to be taken out off the heels of Golden Rambo in order to obtain a clear run. From the 400 to the 300 metres, when asked for an effort, Imperious Caesour had a tendency to hang out despite jockey Shea’s attempt to straighten it. Blue Bush hung in throughout the race.

Routine urine specimens were taken for analysis from Blue Bush and Golden Rambo prior to the race and from Rue Royale after the race.

<B>RACE 4 – THE ACKBAR GUJADHUR CUP</B>

At the start Lex reared as the gates opened, was slow out, losing about three lengths, thereafter raced fiercely, and near the 1100 metres was taken out off the heels of Monomotapa and raced wide from thereon. Approaching the 1100 metres and again near the 850 metres, Tambour Battant, which was racing fiercely, when being settled, shifted in onto Yankee Bell brushing the latter on both occasions. Emjaybee and Monomotapa, which were following, were both inconvenienced and had to be steadied. One For The Road raced fiercely from the 900 to the 500 metres. Emjaybee raced wide throughout. From near the 400 metres until entering the final straight, Monomotapa was held up for a run. Jockey Mahadia reported that Tambour Battant was changing legs throughout the race. A subsequent veterinary examination of the horse revealed no abnormality.

Routine urine specimen was taken for analysis from One For The Road after the race.

<B>RACE 5 – THE SMEG CUP</B>

At the start, Rambo Royale jumped outwards onto Joey’s Boy and Jumpin Joshua jumped inwards onto Heliotrope, resulting in Tolstoy and Joey’s Boy becoming cramped for room with Tolstoy having to be steadied and Joey’s Boy becoming unbalanced over a few strides and brushing Rambo Royale. Tolstoy raced wide on the first turn and from the 400 metres hung out badly, proving very difficult to be properly assisted and made the turn into the final straight very wide. A subsequent veterinary examination of Tolstoy revealed no abnormality. Trainer S Henry advised the Stewards that Joey’s Boy was found to be bleeding from both nostrils following the running of race 6. In view of this, Joey’s Boy has been retired from racing with immediate effect.

Routine urine specimens were taken for analysis from Cherry Bite, Joey’s Boy and Cable Guy prior to the race and from Jumpin Joshua after the race.

<B> RACE 6 – THE MAXIME BOULLE CUP</B>

At the start Hold The Fort and Mister Assembly were slow out, both losing about one length. Mister Assembly raced wide on the first turn. Grey Arrow jumped the crossing at the 450 metres. Methodical Man hung out from the 350 metres. Near the 150 metres Grey Arrow was taken in off the heels of Methodical Man in order to obtain a clear run. The Club’s Veterinary Surgeon reported that Hold The Fort was slightly lame on the near hind leg. In view of this, trainer Ramapatee Gujadhur was told that this horse will need a veterinary certificate of soundness before being allowed to race again. Medal Ceremony hung in in the final straight. Jockey Herholdt (Mister Assembly) reported that his mount jumped awkwardly at the start and that it felt very unsound when pulling up after the race. A subsequent veterinary examination of Mister Assembly revealed it to be lame on its off fore leg. In view of this, trainer B Gujadhur was advised that this horse will need a veterinary certificate of soundness before being allowed to race again.

Routine urine specimens were taken for analysis from Gold Bid prior to and after the race.

<B>RACE 7 – THE DHANKUWAR GUJADHUR CUP</B>

At the start, Kaleidoscope threw its head up and jumped awkwardly and Borzov stood flatfooted, both being slow out and losing about one length. Rob-N-Bob jumped inwards brushing Ice Flow. Kaleidoscope jumped the crossing at the 1200 metres and, when being settled, threw its head up in the air on a number of occasions unbalancing jockey Joorawon. In view of this and taking into account that this horse had been difficult to control in its past races, trainer S. Ramdin was told that Kaleidoscope has been suspended from racing until it passes two barrier tests to the satisfaction of the Stewards. Rob-N-Bob raced wide on the first turn. Borzov hung out badly from the 400 metres and Rob-N-Bob hung out from the 250 metres both horses making the turn into the final straight very wide. A subsequent veterinary examination of Borzov revealed no abnormality. At an inquiry into the riding of Chopipe, jockey Herholdt was found guilty of a charge under Rule 161 (f) in that shortly after the start he, without good cause, failed to take his mount to the fence when in a position to do so. He was fined Rs.40.000. At an inquiry into an incident, Jockey Bekker (Borzov) pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 161 (c) in that approaching the 1300 metres, he improperly took his mount out thus interfering with horses Chopipe and Ice Flow. He was suspended from riding in races for one race meeting and fined Rs.20,000. At an inquiry into the riding of Borzov, jockey Bekker was found guilty of a charge under Rule 161 (f) in that after a slow start he vigorously urged his mount over the first 200 metres instead of settling it in third position behind Kestrel on the fence. Shortly after, he took it out and again urged it up to the 1200 metres resulting in his mount being outside of the leader. Despite having asked his mount for an effort in the early stages of the race, he nonetheless prematurely urged Borzov with vigour from the 650 metres, resulting in the latter compounding badly in the final straight thus, without good cause, failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards. Jockey Bekker was suspended from riding in races for two race meetings and fined Rs.25,000, the suspension to run concurrently with the first one.

Routine urine specimens were taken for analysis from Ice Flow prior to the race and from Telaroyal after the race.

<B>RACE 8 – THE CAPTAIN TRIAL PLATE </B>

At the start Spirit threw its head up and Red Leonard stood flat-footed, both being slow out and losing about one length. Passing the 1500 metres, when the pace slowed, Spirit started to race fiercely and had to be taken out off the heels of Got The Pace. Near the 1100 metres Red Leonard, which was racing fiercely, clipped the heels of Sporting Habit dislodging its rider. Play The Field, which was following, was inconvenienced and had to be taken out. At an inquiry into an incident, it was established that near the 1600 metres Going Down, which was racing fiercely, had to be steadied when Sunsat shifted in when not fully clear. Jockey Brown (Sunsat) was nonetheless issued with a warning and told to exercise care when shifting ground. Shortly after, when the pace slowed, Going Down, Spirit and Red Leonard raced very fiercely over a short distance. When questioned as to why he kept looking on the outside from the 700 metres and why he let his mount shift out from the 400 metres, jockey Bekker (Smuggler) explained that he felt his mount starting to slow down dangerously from the 800 metres and in order to prevent a bunching he was contemplating pulling the latter out of the race. He added that near the 400 metres he did not see jockey Rama (Got The Pace) coming behind him. He was given the benefit of the doubt and told he is expected to ride his horses so as to leave no room for query.
