Punch up on prison premises</B>
Ricardo L?Olive, who was detained in Beau-Bassin prison has claimed that he was beaten up by members of the Prison Security Squad (PSS). Apparently he had complained about the conditions of his detainment to a senior officer. The latter summoned the members of the PSS so that they would look into the matter, but instead they allegedly took out their anger on the young man. He was transferred to the Rose-Belle hospital and then to the high security prison in Phoenix. The L?Olive family is considering taking legal action against the prison administration. On the other hand, the members of the PSS claim that none of this happened, that Ricardo L?Olive is a disruptive element and that he was thus placed under constant surveillance. Only an independent investigation will prove whether the allegations are true or not.

The villages around the site should benefit from the development through the promotion of local crafts and a market for fresh food.
