CANBERRA. Australia?s Prime Minister, a descendant of underwear thief Australia?s Prime Minister Kevin Rudd is a descendent of a child underwear thief and a convict sent to Australia from England for stealing a bag of sugar, a new family history of the Prime Minister has found.

Australia?s Mormon church has spent more than a year researching Rudd?s family history, and presented their findings to the Prime Minister yesterday. The Mormon church, based in Salt Lake City in the United States, has long held a reputation for the excellence of its genealogical research.

It found Rudd, like many Australians, had convict ancestors ? including his fifth great-grandmother who was sent to Australia at the age of 12 after originally being sentenced to death for stealing another girl?s dress and underwear.

?A study of our personal history helps us to respect the struggles that our ancestors endured, in a far different world than one we live in today, to give us the prosperity we now enjoy? church elder Terry Vinson said.

While a convict past was once a source of shame for Australians, most now wear any criminal ancestry with pride.

LONDON. Police hunt stolen rare shark

A rare shark was being hunted by police on Tuesday after it was stolen from an aquarium.

Imported from Indonesia four years ago, the 2ft long, mottled brown, marble catshark ? Atelomycterus Macleayi ? is the female half of the only active breeding pair of its kind in Britain.

?As a breeding pair the male and female are worth 50,000 pounds,? aquarium owner Peter Newman, 68, told Reuters, following the shark?s theft over the weekend from his Farnborough aquarium in Hampshire. ?On its own the female might be worth 10,000 pounds,? added Newman. ?We think whoever stole it might come back and try and take the male or we?ll get a ransom demand for the female. They obviously came prepared as to take a shark you need a net, a bag full of water and a polystyrene box. I think it must have been someone who had been in the shop before and knew where it was kept.?

In an interview with Vanity Fair Magazine , the former supermodel, pop singer and now wife of President Nicolas Sarkozy said she welcomed comparisons with John F Kennedy?s wife who was renowned for her sense of style particularly during her husband?s presidency.

?She was so young and modern,? she told the magazine. ?Unconsciously I would project myself more like Jackie Kennedy than for instance, Madame de Gaulle, who would be much more like the classical French woman behind her husband,? she added.

In the interview with the US magazine, Carla disclosed that she and President Sarkozy are trying for a baby. She already has a seven-year-old son, Aurelien, from a previous relationship.

?I?d love to have children with Nicolas. I hope to, if I am young enough. It would be a dream,? she said, but ruled out fertility treatment. ?If it comes, I?d be the happiest person in the world, but if it doesn?t come, I am not going to tempt the Devil. If life doesn?t give me another child, well, it has given me so much already.?
