Peter Llewellyn
A man who enjoys working with his hands
After completing his studies, Peter Llewellyn started working in furniture production management. But his desire was to work overseas. After establishing a business in South Africa, he tried Mauritius in 2000 and has never wanted to leave since then…
Usually, people are good either with their hands or their brains. However, Peter Llewellyn is good with both. Indeed, the present director of the Pam Golding Properties estate agents was involved in the production of furniture for several years. And during that time, he managed to build some of the most handsome and elegant furniture that a man can produce. His patience and his calm nature helped him to create such beautiful objects. And making such things has become a hobby for him. Today, working with his hands is what he enjoys most. Although the job that I do right now does not require me to use my hands, I still try to find some time to make some furniture by assembling various bits and pieces.”
But infact Peter does not have much time for hobbies as he works seven days a week. His time table depends on his clients. However, he does sometimes manage to find some time to do what he enjoys, for example cycling.
After having completed his secondary education, Peter did a BSC degree in furniture production management. That led him on to managing several companies dealing in furniture in England, South Africa and Mauritius. Indeed, after his 4 year degree he threw himself into the industry. He was general manager for a furniture production company in England. His experience enabled him to go and do the same job abroad. First he went to South Africa where he was involved in two companies, the first in Johannesburg and the second in Cape Town.
Peter arrived in Mauritius for the first time in 1992 and met his wife to be, Marie-Josée, the same year. After getting married, they went to South Africa in 1994, two weeks before the general election there. They stayed there for seven years. After that, they returned to Mauritius in 2000. Peter then helped his wife to launch the Pam Golding company here. He has remained with that company ever since.
“Dealing with properties, or what goes inside properties, has always been a joy to me. I have been involved in design and manufacturing before. Although I have managed big companies in the past, I remember it was always a pleasure for me to physically work inside the company. For example I liked doing furniture and even decoration!”
Peter was born in 1965 in Wales. He grew up there, and he did both his primary and secondary sudies there, whereas his tertiary education took place in Buckinghamshire, to the north of London. Despite the fact that he does not manage French very well, he does not want to hear about leaving Mauritius. Moreover, he wants to contribute to the development of our island.
“As it stands now, with the opening of the world market our industry has an interesting future. Competition will be fierce. But competition only results in one thing: either you go down or you strive for the highest standards within your own industry. I look forward to that challenge…”
