Last Sunday, Saint Mary’s College held its first edition of the Family Day to get together students, parents and teachers. But it was also a special day for some ex students of the college, the ‘old boys’.

Menon Munien, Rector of Saint Mary’s College, emphasized on the parents’ presence, “Nowadays, it is very difficult to educate the children without the support of the parents. It is unfair to ask the parents to come to school only when their children are in trouble. We thought we needed to create events to motivate them to come.” As a result, on that day, the Rector of Saint Mary’s even forbade himself to talk about the students’ problems to any parents, if ever he was asked about the issue.

Apart from various amusements provided for everyone, the main attraction of the day was certainly the concert organised by the students and teachers of the college.

The mother of a student, Roselys Maniana, who is also Vice President of the PTA was delighted with the idea of hosting a Family Day, “I find the idea of holding a Family Day absolutely terrific. In a way, this kind of event helps to break the barriers between parents and teachers.”
