It is often said that only time can heal some wounds. But time has not changed anything to the bad feelings that have been plaguing the opposition. While the PMSD is taking its marks in the government, the MMM and MSM seem to be watching for a faux-pas from the other. Paul Bérenger did not hesitate to castigate the new opposition leader, Nando Bodha, on his first performance as such in the National assembly. This is just one example of the “below-the belt” blows the former partners are ready to deal each other. Ashock Jugnauth, who left the MSM last week, revealed he intended to set up his own party before Labour Day.

The one who felt humiliated and hurt by his former party seems to have regained strength after resigning. He is sitting as an independent member in Parliament but he is mobilising his troops to launch his own party: the Mauritian National Union. He is taking time to make sure he will build a strong team with a strong image. The colours and emblem are part of the game; Ashock Jugnauth chose an open book and his colours will be white and gold.

Some have already stated their intention of joining the new party – former MSM members like Dick Ng Sui Wa, Roshan Satish Seebun and Ashley Hurhangee are among them. Other former MSM members, disappointed by the new leadership of the party, may also join Ashock Jugnauth. Anil Gayan and Ajay Daby are the most likely. Even though the new party will probably hold no rally on Mayday, the future leader wants to be ready for this symbolic date…
