Open letter to the ministry of Industry
Referring to article on l?express newspaper of 29.06.07 regarding the increase in price of pulses, I would like to comment on the above articles, as the representative of the local grains millers.
Tyre Master, importer of processed pulses, declared that the company is selling split peas at Rs 17.00 1/2 kg and that if the government removes the 10 % customs duty, it can sell it at Rs 15.50. For your information, our mills are producing all split pulses and spices (grains secs et épices). We are selling locally produced split peas at Rs 10.00 1/2 kg in bulk and Rs 11.00 packed in 500g plastic bags. Hence, the government should not eliminate us as competitors to this business. In fact, we would like to ask government for its support to our industries. We want a similar support to that of salt and salted fish (snoek) industries i.e. no imports of refined salts and salted fish are allowed in order to protect them. We hope that these suggestions will be taken into consideration.
