Murray & Roberts takes up Desbro
The South African firm, Murray and Roberts, will be taking up the activities of Desbro International. As a result, this company will control almost the whole market for iron bars in Mauritius and operators fear for security of supply ? the more so as South African will need a lot of construction materials in preparation for the Olympic games in 2010. Although the ministry does not confirm or deny the news, the government may remove the 30% customs duty on iron bars soon. Desbro ?hopes that the government is not favouring a South-African supplier to the detriment of a local operator?.
