Expert in recruitment

This dabbler, this “sport crazy” fellow is the perfect example of success. Behind his austere looks (which he displays for professional purposes only), lies a man of great depth. After a laborious start, he has managed to achieve his goals, with the help of his loving wife and children.

The first impression you might get of this man changes as you get to know him. Indeed, when you first see him, you might think he is strict and serious. He is serious actually! But only when it comes to work. Otherwise, he is friendly and very straightforward. He runs a recruitment agency. No wonder the client is at ease with him as he sits, chats with the person and gives him special attention.

One thing John enjoys a lot is spending time with his family. This is the reason why he recently bought a boat. He tries to take them to different places every time he can. If you go into his office, you will guess he is mad about sports. Especially golf, which is one of his favourite hobbies. Moreover, he plays some squash and does some fishing. However, he admits he sometimes cannot find time due to his work and also because he is very often abroad.

“I like sports. I love playing my golf! I try to play golf as much as possible even if is not really possible because of work and commitments. When I was younger, I was playing lots of rugby. But, as you get older, you have to keep some fitness. But I do not do jogging. It is too much hard work for me!”

After his degree in mechanical engineering, John wanted to experience different jobs. He went to try “a bit of everything everywhere” in Zimbabwe. Then he wanted to start travelling. He first went to South Africa. He worked and lived there for 15 years. When he was around thirty, he left South Africa for England. He spent six very enriching years there. His first two years were spent working for the formula one group British American Racing. In fact, John was there when the group took off. He was running the machine shops.

“Although it was not a very good year for BAR, it was a good experience. In fact, we did not expect a lot as it was our first year.” After BAR, John wanted to move and do something different. He and his brother went to open a recruitment company. Each one had his company dealing with different fields. But, in 2003, he came to Mauritius on holiday and decided to come and live here. He arrived in September 2004 with his wife Vanessa and his two children: Siobhon and Devon.

John was born on 17th June 1961 in Zimbabwe, more precisely in Kwekwe, a city located in the centre of the country. He did both his primary and secondary education in Zimbabwe. In 1990, he got married to Vanessa whom he met in South Africa. Before coming to Mauritius, he and his wife had to choose between coming to Mauritius or going to Dubai. They finally moved here and they do not regret it as they find Mauritius wonderful.

“To be honest, when we first arrived in Mauritius, we thought we had made a mistake. But now with the latest budget that has just come out, we are trying to see how we can make the most of it. Furthermore, Mauritius is great as it is a country where you can get everything. I want to stay here and even retire here!”
