Investigation on hold-up and murder at a standstill
The investigation concerning the Rs 51.8 million hold-up and Gérald Lagesse?s death seems to be making no progress. Despite the details given by Poovaden Soobaroyan, known as Vinesen, the loot has still not been found. Moreover, he asserts that none of the suspects arrested ? Steve Monvoisin, Jiawed Ruhumatally or himself ? killed the customer care supervisor by stuffing papers into his mouth. So, who is responsible for the crime?
The police are going through the bank accounts of all suspects closely. As Vinesen, Monvoisin and Ruhumatally assert that Gérald Lagesse was part of the plot, his bank accounts are also subject to close scrutiny. According to Vinesen, he was the right-hand man of Boss 007, who is said to be the mastermind behind this operation.
However, Vinesen says he has never been told the name of the ?boss? while Ruhumatally recently stated he could give details on what Vinesen had told him about this mysterious senior manager. Vinesen also declared that half of the money would go to Lagesse and Boss 007 and the other half to Monvoisin and his accomplices. But he is adamant that he doesn?t know the amount of the loot.
Voluble attendant
Vinesen insists on the fact he wanted to back out at a certain point. However, he says he was pressured by Ruhumatally and his acolytes. The latter is said to have even threatened to kill him; he introduced his brother to Vinesen saying, ?He was going to kill Navin Ramgoolam to prevent him from becoming prime minister, it will be easier with you.?
The voluble attendant has also mentioned that two other people were involved in the hold-up. He said Ruhumatally came to his place on a Thursday evening to tell him the team had been set up. The gang, he said, would be composed of Ruhumatally himself, Monvoisin and two other people, one living in Plaine-Verte and the other in Sainte-Croix. He should reveal more details about these two new suspects this week.
But Satrojeetsingh Sotrooghan, who has also been arrested for the hold-up and murder of Gérald Lagesse, could help to identify the two men. He said that he saw one man talking with Ruhumatally near the bank on the day before D-Day and another one getting into the white vehicle after the hold-up.
With two new arrests ? Jacques Désiré Agéon provisionally accused of conspiracy and Johnny Christophe Antoinette accused of harbouring a suspect ? the police certainly have a lot on their plates this week.
