People often talk about the French or the British sense of humour? But it is quite rare to hear about the German sense of humour. Rainer Götze could easily give us a taste of it. Indeed, Rainer is someone really calm and serious. But when he is talking to you, he does not hesitate to crack some jokes and is a very friendly talker on many subjects.

But there is one thing that Rainer concedes is one of his typically German habits: being on time. ?I see myself as a typical German. I am very accurate, straight-forward and quality-wise. For me 1+1 is equal to 2 and not to 1.9 or 2.1! Also I feel really German in the sense that if I have a meeting at 1 o?clock, I will be there at 1 o?clock. This is a very German habit!?

Rainer came to Mauritius some 28 years ago to see whether he could create a branch in Mauritius for the business he was working for. Unfortunately, it did not work out very well. But this did not make Rainer pessimistic. Actually, his motivation was still high and he decided to create his own industry ? Aremo. With all the changes and trends in jewellery, Aremo has diversified into other products. Today, his compay is well-known for its production of high-class silver. Moreover, it has set up its own brand called 9T05 Silverworks. Most of its products are exported abroad to build an even more successful company. This is the wish of its chairman: Rainer Götze.

The first thing that you notice when he is in his working environment is his innovative way of thinking. For example, unlike other companies, he does not want his company to operate with a strict hierarchic approach in management. He prefers everyone to be on the same platform and work as a team. Furthermore, his emphasis is on efficiency and profit. He prefers having a small workforce and a great output level rather than one big company with a small output level.

Rainer also has a passion for art. He enjoys collecting art objects. In fact, he has a collection of highly valuable classical antiquities back in Germany. Besides, he likes jogging and playing tennis. Gardening is another of his pastimes. However, he does not have much free time for it these days. Despite having never done any biking in his life, Rainer took part in the famous Deutsche Bank 100 km Cycle Tour yesterday, which involved six professional cyclists from South Africa. But Rainer admits in a very friendly way, that it was just because some friends convinced him to participate.

Rainer was born in 1953 in Stuttgart, in the south of Germany. After having done most of his studies in Stuttgart, Rainer did some apprenticeship in audit and accounts from 1972 to 1974. The following year, he did another apprenticeship, this time in fine metal techniques. He started his professional career in 1977 as manager in the commercial export of a company called Emil Klingenfuss in Germany, then in Poland.

He got married in 2002. Today, with his wife Anna, owner of PASSION Jewellery Shops, life seems wonderful for him. He really intends to make the most of his stay in Mauritius by thinking in a positive way. ?Many expatriates see the negative side of Mauritius. I always tell such people to try to live and adapt by looking at the positive things first. My mission is to work here. But, besides this, I will try to see what is in my power to help to change things around a bit to make Mauritius an even better country??
