At the best of times, Bryce Campbell does not like to shop. In Mauritius, this has developed into a phobia. Surprised? Let this happy go lucky guy from California tell you why in his own words. Note: it?s funnier when he does it in person?

?I go to buy a cell phone. I spend some time looking at the phones thinking that somebody will come and help. Fifteen minutes later, I wanted to scream: ?Hello! Anybody here?? I was more polite though and somebody came along. I ask the salesperson for a cell phone advertised at Rs 2,700. The guy looks at me and says he needs to call the man. The ?man? comes and says the sale ended yesterday. So I ask him what his best price was. He says Rs 3,200. Then I look at the phones displayed and see one priced at Rs 2,800. So I ask him what all that was about. He looked at me for a while; then said: ?Yes we have that one too.? Unbelievable. Not only do they try to rip you off but they don?t care if they make the sale or not!?

Bryce makes you laugh with his experience in Mauritius. Experience that started while he was on his way to the airport to fly to Portugal for Euro 2004. His friend Nate calls him to tell him that he ?absolutely had to come to Mauritius to help gather information for a book. While anybody else would have thought twice and asked plenty of questions as well as taking some time to think it over, Bryce thought he might as well go as he had quit his job as a political organizer for a community organisation since he wanted to travel anyway. The fact that Mauritius was nowhere near his intended destination of Bolivia didn?t seem to bother him?

Six months later, Bryce is getting ready to leave Mauritius. With no regrets over his hasty decision. Filmmaking has almost become a way of life?

It is nearly reaching the end for the group of filmmakers now. Bryce doesn?t know if he will come back to Mauritius. But the one thing that could convince him is to visit the friends he?s made here; one of the few things he will miss.

Once back in the States, the group of four will head to Long Island to start the editing of their film on Mauritius. This time-consuming project completed, the next step will be to try and screen the film in the States. The group is not expecting to make any money out of this. Their project is a labour of love.
