Courrier : For a fair coverage
This is to bring some rectifications on the «billet» of 12 September 2004 on L`Express Dimanche concerning the protest of the Tamil community for a fair and equitable coverage at the M.B.C
You are right when you said that if someone wants to learn a language, he or she can do it without putting pressure on the MBC. But, the actual situation at the MBC is a discriminatory one for those students who are taking Tamil language as an oriental subject. The reasoning behind this lies in the fact that those taking Hindi for example as an oriental language are exposed to a greater extent to their subject compared to those taking Tamil language. In the same context, we are humbly demanding the MBC, 5 hours of programmes per day. Experts and pedagogues resumed that 5 hours of exposure to the Tamil language per day is barely enough to learn the subject.
Secondly, it?s an insult for the Tamil community when you said that the cultural show would act as the main attraction for members of the Tamil community to be present at the manifestation. The Tamil community is not a cheap one which you can buy a cultural show. For your information, note that there were more than 2 500 people at the manifestation and less than 1 200 people at the cultural show.
The fight for a fair and equitable coverage at the MBC is not an ephemeral one (?). To sustain this, the Tamil community gives you rendez-vous in 2 months time in front of the Parliament if the unfair and inequitable coverage persist at the National station. We strongly believe that is a legitimate demand from the Tamil community so that social justice prevails in order to cement National unity.
