Sex during holidays abroad ? No, thanks; we’re British. The libidinous image of the British tourist is a myth, according to a survey of 4,000 adults. Despite the activities of young Britons in Mediterranean resorts from Faliraki to Ibiza, 67 per cent of adults have never had a holiday romance. According to the poll of nearly 4,000 adults for The Telegraph Adventure Travel and Sports Show, nearly three people in four would not even consider going on holiday for sex or romance.

The poll showed that Londoners were most likely to be stricken by the love bug, with 38 per cent confessing to a vacation romance. While 34 per cent of those questioned aged 18-29 had been romantically involved on holiday, the over-50s, with 28 per cent, proved to be more amorous than the 30-50 age group, of whom only 27 per cent had a relationship.

The findings suggested that Britons were looking for something more than romantic and sexual entanglements on holiday, said Martin Anslow, the show organiser. “People are getting more adventurous. Adventure activities such as trekking or rafting are no longer just for young travellers.”
