Amid all that colour it was a ?Black? evening. The powerful Sanjay Leela Bhansali film took all that mattered at the 51st Fair One Annual Filmfare Awards. And what?s more, the Big B was there to receive his awards in person, a first this year.

For those who came in late, Amitabh Bachchan and Rani Mukherjee were the predictable winners of the prestigious Best Actor and Best Actress awards for their intense portrayals in Black . ?Black? won the best film Award and Bhansali, appropriately dressed in the colour of the evening, took home a Filmfare for Best Director. Amitabh too wore black, Rani was in all white.

And if that ? and a clutch of other technical and popular awards ? were not enough, Amitabh and Rani won the Critics? Awards too.

Many awardees didn?t turn up to receive their awards, but Amitabh was there to a standing ovation. He thanked everyone for their prayers and good wishes that helped him get well. An emotional Jaya Bachchan watched from the audience.

?Black?, Sanjay Leela Bhansali?s sensitive portrayal of the world of the deaf-blind, swept the Filmfare awards, winning a total of 11 awards. Among other winners, child actor Ayesha Kapoor won the Best Supporting Actress trophy for her role in ?Black?, and Abhishek Bachchan won the Best Supporting Actor award for ?Sarkar?.

Dedicating the award to his father, Abhishek said, ?I want to dedicate this award to the greatest actor I know, my father Amitabh Bachchan. It is only when he is in the lead role that anyone can win the best supporting actor trophy?.

In music category, ?Bunty Aur Babli? emerged the winner, winning best lyrics for the song ?Kajra Re? to Gulzar, best female playback singer to Ayesha Chinai for the same number and Best Music to the trio of Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy.

The award for the best male playback singer went to Himesh Reshamiyya for ?Aashiq Banaya Aapne?.

Internationally acclaimed actress Shabana Azmi was awarded with the Lifetime Achievement Award by Filmfare for her contribution to Hindi cinema and producer Yash Chopra was given the Power Award.

Among other winners, Vidya Balan won the Face of the Year and Best debutante (female) award for her role in Pradeep Sarkar?s ?Parineeta?.

Former Miss World Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan also performed at the ceremony which was attended by the who?s who of the film industry and also Hollywood star Will Smith, who presented the Best Actress trophy to Rani Mukerjee.
