<B>Passion for reading</B>

When she travelled for the first time from England to Zimbabwe, she was only four years old. She did her tertiary education in South Africa and she even got a diploma after having followed a course of two-years at the University of Mauritius in librarianship?

Introverted, perfectionist and sensitive are the three words that suit her the most. Angela is librarian in a private school. Her patience and her love for children have led her to do this job for more than ten years. Furthermore, what has helped her most to keep on going in this job is the fact that she loves reading. She just reads everything she can get her hands on.

?You have to be very patient to work in a school library. And I am! I really love children.?

Angela was working in an advertising agency called FCB in London. Her experience helped to get her a job in almost the same field in Johannesburg. She worked for a Hotel group called Sun International. She was operating in the marketing and advertising department of the hotel.

?What I like is copy writing. What I also liked was when I had to convince people about a product. To work there was a tremendous experience. It is as if I was playing a game. At the same time it is as if I was learning. I will never have such an opportunity again unfortunately??

Angela came to Mauritius in 1987. She married one year later and started working for an English woman, as her secretary. At the beginning things were quite difficult for Angela as she had to settle down and get used to French and Creole. But she managed to overcome those difficulties thanks to that woman who helped her out and introduced her to new people. Then, she wanted to experience some teaching as well and worked for the private junior school Lycee Labourdonnais and taught English. She then moved to L?Ecole Du Nord when it opened. She was teaching English again there, but only for some time. Indeed, she then started working in the library of the British Council. She was excited about the idea of doing this.

?I have always loved reading. I wanted to move to work in a library as I knew it would never find it boring as my passion for books was so huge.?

Angela was born in the North of England, more precisely in Barnet. She will be fourty-four years old next Monday. She is now divorced and lives with her two sons William (15) and John (10).

After having completed her secondary education, she went to the University of Cape Town to study English and Psychology. However, she did not complete her course because she wanted to go back to see her father in England and because she was offered a job there as well. She ended up doing a diploma at the University of Mauritius in librarianship and information science in 1994. When she is asked about her future, she just does not know. However, it will depend on her two children.

?I would like to move abroad one day. I miss travelling. But it will depend on my two sons as well. Your kids always need you, and they need to be settled. But anything could happen at anytime??
