“Anba Manikham must explain himself about the complaint for attempt to murder”

Recently a complaint of attempt to murder was made to the police and appeared subsequently in several local newspapers. The journalist Narain Jasodanand from l’express daily newspaper was allegedly assaulted by Mr Anba Manikham, Senior Manager of Cabin Operations at Air Mauritius Ltd. The union hereby requests answers to the following questions:

1.Have the explanations of Mr Anba Manikham been sought by the company? If so, when? If not, why not?

2.In the eventuality that the explanations of the aforesaid Senior Manager have been sought, have these been obtained? When? Did he conform to a prescribed delay?

3.If these explanations have indeed been obtained, what stand does the company intend to adopt in relation to this matter?

4.Does the company have disciplinary procedures in relation to its employees involved in police cases? Are these procedures being adhered to in this particular case?

The Union is requesting answers to these questions in the spirit of transparency and fairness since it is a police case and AMCCA considers that the allegations made against this Senior Manager are of a serious nature in the provisions of the Criminal Code.

May we remind you that it is the duty of the management to provide the guarantee that no employee is at risk with this Senior Manager, who may eventually be incapable of showing restraint and moderation in the face of criticism. The usual practice of immediate suspension in police cases where MK staff is involved is to avoid such hazards at the workplace.

Furthermore, do note that each time the Communications department fails to communicate clearly whenever an employee of the company is involved in such an embarrassing situation of public knowledge, the cabin crew has to endure the derogatory remarks of passengers during flights. This is most unfair. The Communications department should be taken to task and be competent enough to handle those situations.

Thanking you for your prompt reply and information about your actions.
