Sugar producers find government?s decision unfair
Sugar producers do not know which way to turn. The government has applied new conditions for the closure of their three sugar factories in Riche-en-Eau, Mon Trésor Mon Désert and Mon Loisir without any prior consultations. Producers are now asking for a meeting with the government to discuss these conditions and to try to have some negotiations. The government is asking them for between 1,500 and 2,000 ha of lands in exchange for the authorisation to close down factories. The director of the Mauritius Sugar Producers Association, Jean Li (picture), finds these new conditions ?unjustified?.
