Despite recent rains, the water supply is still far from being a regular feature in our homes. “It is the end of the drought period”, claimed the deputy director of the meteorological centre in Vacoas, Suresh Boodhoo. Even if it can’t be denied that the recent rains must have been positive for the water supply, only time will tell whether this will allow the Central Water Authority (CWA) to start less strict cuts… Until then, they may take even more drastic measures this week.The numerous leaks on the network do not allow the institution to retain enough water to supply the whole population adequately.

But the situation is even more serious as there are some tensions within the institution. The employees are complaining that the director has abolished overtime – and “this is why it takes such a long time to repair leaks”. However, according to the director, overtime has never been abolished but reduced because of fraudulent practices by some employees who overstepped the bounds.
