PM insists on importance of Chinese investment
When he came back from his mission abroad less than a month ago, the Prime minister, Navin Ramgoolam, said that he would seize the opportunity of the next African-Chinese summit in Beijing to convince investors. He explained at that time to the Chinese PM his determination to bring more investors from his country to Mauritius; his aim is that our country should become a gateway between China and Africa, which would intensify trade relations. His speech during the roundtable on Sunday morning indeed went in the same direction, as he reminded Chinese investors that they were most welcome in the country.
In view of the growing importance of China at world level, he said he was convinced that it could help African countries to integrate the global economy – specifically with foreign investment. The PM said he felt that a new partnership between China and Africa would encourage Chinese investors to come and invest. The more so as Mauritius commits to grant them a beneficial business atmosphere. All conditions are in place to attract foreign investment and make investors’ lives easier… They just have to test them now.
