<B>Owner of killer-stag arrested</B>

The Criminal Investigation Division of Grand-Port-Savanne have arrested the owner of the stag that killed 56 year-old Jayantee Jhungur in Anse-Jonchée on 20th August. Joseph France Michel Fayolle (49) is provisionally charged with unwitting homicide by want of caution and negligence. He is also under an objection to departure. The victim used to work on Michel Fayolle?s farm and feed his animals. According to her relatives, it was a well-known fact that the stag was dangerous but no one had taken the decision to kill it despite the risks. On that Saturday morning, Jayantee Jhungur was savagely attacked by the beast without anybody being able to help. When the owner came and shot the stag, it was already too late and the victim had died.

<B>The executive brain drain goes on</B>

After Nirvan Veerasamy and Ravin Dajee, Lance Wickman, the chief operating officer (COO) of Enterprise Mauritius is leaving his post. He said he would not ask for a renewal of his contract at its expiry in December. As in other parastatal bodies, the main problem seems to be the interference of the board chairman in the day-to-day affairs of the company. The New Zealander said that the posts of board chairman and COO should not be merged into one but the role and responsibilities of each should be clearly defined to avoid future conflicts.

Adsu dismantles drug network

A network of cannabis dealers was dismantled in the north with the arrest of suspects last Tuesday. A lengthy investigation by the Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit (Adsu) finally led to the arrest of Emmanuel Andy Eddy Sam Fat, customer service supervisor at the Mauritius Commercial Bank (MCB), Appanah Budmanaboodoo, clerk at the bank, as well as Deven Cangy and Ingrid Charoux. The mastermind is suspected to be Andy Sam Fat. The latter and Ingrid Charoux were caught in the act in the car park of the bank.
