Opportunity to discover Mauritian treasures
The ?heritage week? organised by the ministry of Tourism and Leisure is meant to become an annual event. Until 10th September, Mauritians and tourists will be given certain opportunities to get to know more about Mauritian history. Great monuments of Mauritius normally closed to the public or with fee-paying entrance will be open to the public during this week for free. ?As we must have fun, we should do it in a more intelligent way,? said the minister of Tourism and Leisure, Xavier-Luc Duval, at the official opening of the event at Château du Réduit last Friday. The first objective of this special week is to educate Mauritians about the history of their island and make them aware of the splendid buildings they have all around them. These buildings are either masterpieces of architecture or simply relate a piece of the country?s history. But the ministry also targets another aim developing cultural tourism in Mauritius. Through this special week, the ministry wants to contribute to making the island a more attractive destination?
