The sound of silence
Silence, beauty and spirituality....three words to summarize the atmosphere of the spiritual park. A place surrounded by so many myths and legends. 12 acres of land in a natural state where only the birds singing and the sound of the river and the waves of the sea can be heard. Indeed, next to this marvellous park there is a river that meets the sea.
Inside the park itself, a little temple or pavillon can be found. Shoes or slippers have to be removed out of respect for the statues and pictures of the divinity inside the temple. In fact, something really special is inside this temple: a five headed Ganesha. But what is particular to that statue is its height. Indeed, this statue is seven feet high. According to some sources, it is the tallest statue of a god in the Indian Ocean.
Another aspect of the park is its green environment. There are so many different endemic plants. Rare fruits like the Amla can be found (A small fruit with a round shape). This fruit is one of the richest in vitamin C. Then, some very rare trees also can be found. The Ashoka tree is one of them. This tree is one of the most legendary and sacred trees of India, and one of the most fascinating flowers in the Indian range of flower varieties. It is a very handsome, small, erect evergreen tree, with deep green foliage and very fragrant, bright orange-yellow flowers, which later turn red.
Sometimes people tend to look for places when they can find peace and silence. Others tend to look for places where they can find spirituality. For more than a decade, the spiritual park has been the ideal place for these kinds of people. It was founded with the main aim of being an area of spiritual therapy. And very often people go there to meditate, to confess or simply to relax?
Leisure for the visitor
Apart from its stunning countryside, the spiritual park will be, rather sooner than later, a leisure park for visitors. In fact, a waterfront with its food court is being built. Activities such as trips in kayaks or on bicycles will be possible.
In 2000 a team of several people started to develop and rehabilitate the park. They started by doing research and surveys. Their aims were to make this area become an eco-tourist area.
Two people from this team, Vinay Narrainen and Assok Kistoo, have never stopped believing in this project. They explained: ?this project is 80% complete. We are really satisfied with the way it is going. These days, around fifty visitors come to the spiritual park every year. But with the waterfront and all its leisure activities coming soon, the number of visitors will certainly double, or even treble!?
They also stressed that this project would not have been possible without the help and support of the UNDP, GEG and of the SGP?
