Marie-Linley Savriacooty has finally undergone psychiatric tests to ascertain her mental state. However, the experts in Brown-Sequard said the results of the tests would only be known in a few days.

After she recovered from her suicide attempt, she accepted to undergo the tests on Sunday morning. She had made it clear that she would only go through the tests on the condition that her husband, Stéphano, accompanied her. He indeed attended them with his wife even though he had formerly left his home to go back to his mother’s place.

Last Monday, Marie-Linley Savriacooty swallowed about thirty tablets at her sister’s home in Mahebourg and could have died if the firemen had not arrived in time to take her to hospital. The police found two letters which she had written before trying to put an end to her life. The first one was addressed to her husband, Stéphano, “Even if the whole nation was against me, if you were with me, it would have been wonderful because you gave a meaning to my life.” The second one was for all Mauritian women relating her fight for truth and she points out that she is the victim in this story.

After saying she was kidnapped in Rose-Hill, sexually assaulted and beaten in a sugar cane field near Fuel, Marie-Linley Savriacooty saw some aspects of her story contradicted by certain people as well as by the forensic tests.

A few days after, her husband left home and rumours were rife that he had called her to tell her he would be asking for a divorce – which could explain her desperate action. But Marie-Linley Savriacooty only said: “He never told me he wanted a divorce. He just said he wanted to take a break…”
