Man who killed Rajiv Hospitalised
Murugan, who had been sentenced to death in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case and lodged in the Vellore Central Prison, has been hospitalised as his health deteriorated following an indefinite fast for 18 days.
Vellore district collector Dharmendra Prasad Yadav said over telephone that Murugan was admitted to the Government Hospital at Adukambarai, very near to the high-security prison, late on Wednesday as a “precautionary measure”. “He is active, he is talking and his condition is stable,” Yadav added.
Murugan’s wife Nalini, who had been awarded life sentence in the same case, was also admitted to hospital yesterday as she also had been on fast since June 26, he said. Both of them were on fast demanding that their daughter Arithra be given an Indian visa for pursuing higher studies in India.
Arithra was now staying with Murugan’s parents in Sri Lanka. Recently, she had completed her schooling.
