Indian leader shot
Pramod Mahajan, a former federal minister and general secretary of Bharatiya Janata Party, India’s opposition party, has been shot in a family dispute. Mahajan underwent surgery to remove the bullets. His condition is said to be “quite critical,” the BBC reported.
Praveen Mahajan, the victim’s brother, was allowed to pass through building security to enter the 15th floor Mumbai apartment, where he allegedly shot the party leader three times. Indian TV channels report Praveen Mahajan has surrendered to police.
Pramod Mahajan on Tuesday remained on dialysis and ventilatory support and his condition remained ‘critical’ with doctors saying there was no change in the health parameters since Monday.
The team of doctors did not contemplate any further surgical intervention until Mahajan’s condition improves. Asked if Mahajan’s blood pressure had improved, Verma said the improvement was very slight and not significant.
In Delhi, more than 300 maulanas gathered to chant the entire holy Quran to pray for Mahajan’s speedy recovery. Mahajan’s children Rahul and Poonam on Tuesday visited the Siddivinayak temple in Mumbai to pray for their fathers good health.
Meanwhile, on the investigation front, police on Tuesday said Pravin Mahajan could have planned the attack on Saturday morning when he left his home in Thane to visit the BJP leader’s house in Worli.
