Les RMS satisfaits des explications de Jago
Les Race Meeting Stewards (RMS) ont enquêté, hier matin, sur la monte de Jason Jago sur Keen To Win, engagé dans la septième course de la première journée. Le cavalier sud-africain ainsi que son entraîneur Vincent Allet ont été convoqués. À l’issue de l’enquête, aucune sanction n’a été prise contre le jockey.
Jason Jago a expliqué aux commissaires de courses que sa monture versait à l’intérieur à partir de l’entrée de la ligne droite. Ce qui fait qu’il n’a pu le monter avec sa vigueur habituelle.
L’entraîneur Vincent Allet a, lors de son intervention, expliqué qu’il accordait une chance à son cheval, même s’il était d’avis que le 1365m était un peu court. Il a également fait part aux RMS que, vu les circonstances, il était satisfait de la monte de son jockey.
Il faut dire que le film a confirmé les dires du jockey à l’effet que Keen To Win versait à l’intérieur. Les commissaires ont donc décidé de ne pas aller de l’avant dans cette affaire. Keen To Win, rappelons-le, avait échoué à la deuxième place à 0.20 L de Mr Magoo.
Jason Jago a également eu à fournir des explications quant à sa monte sur Methodical Man. Il avait terminé à la sixième et avant-dernière place à 6.07L de Rambo Royale.
Les RMS ont voulu savoir pourquoi il n’a pas essayé de “pocket” Flavius au 300m pour se donner toutes les chances, d’autant plus que ce dernier était le favori de la course. Jago a expliqué que son coursier australien tirait vers l’extérieur sur tout le parcours et qu’il ne pouvait garder Flavius à son intérieur malgré tous ses efforts.
L’entraîneur Vincent Allet abonda dans le même sens tout en expliquant que Methodical Man est un cheval difficile à piloter. Aucune sanction n’a été prise contre Jago, mais les commissaires lui ont conseillé d’être plus vigilant à l’avenir.

<B>Race 1 - THE PHILIPPE ANTELME CUP</B>
At the start Distinctly Gold and Precision were slow out, both losing about one length. Passing the 1300 metres Spirit started to race fiercely when being settled, throwing its head up over a few strides. French Lightning raced wide on the first turn. Near the 1100 metres Precision, when being settled, threw its head up in the air. From the 900 metres, when the pace slowed, Distinctly Gold started racing fiercely and was awkward off the heels of Kevin until the 600 metres. From the 350 metres Masterfax was held up for a run between Precision and Spirit over approximately 100 metres and near the 100 metres had to be switched in off the heels of the three horses in order to obtain an inside run. Who’s Pretending raced wide on the final turn. From the 150 metres Sporting Habit hung out and near the 100 metres brushed Precision on its outside. Jockey Nagadoo was shown the video of the incident and issued with a warning and told that he must straighten his mounts when they shift ground. He was also told that a repetition may lead to a more severe action being taken against him. Jockey Emamdee reported that Spirit raced greenly throughout. Routine urine specimens were taken for analysis from Distinctly Gold, Spirit and Who’s Pretending prior to the race and from Gandolf after the race.
<B>Race 2 - THE RENAULT - JASON ESPITALIER NOEL CUP</B>
At the start Little Gee half reared and Play The Field stood flat-footed, both losing about one length. At an inquiry into an incident, jockey Whitmore (Rue Royale) pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 161 (c) in that near the 1350 metres he carelessly allowed his mount to shift in, resulting in Destination, which was racing on its inside, having to be eased and, as a result, threw its head up. He was fined Rs.10,000. Approaching the 1300 metres Little Gee, when steadied off the heels of Golden Rambo, threw its head up and shifted out abruptly. From the 1200 metres to the 800 metres, Destination which was racing fiercely, threw its head up and proved difficult to control. Shortly after entering the final straight Play The Field was disappointed for a run and had to be switched in off the heels of Ice Flow and Rue Royale in order to obtain a clear run. From near the 200 metres Stormy Front started hanging out under pressure, resulting in Rue Royale and Ice Flow, being slightly inconvenienced. Jockey Mahadia was shown the video of the incident and advised to straighten his mounts when they shift ground. Passing the 100 metres, Golden Rambo was cramped for room between Ice Flow and Little Gee and had to be steadied. The start was delayed when Destination arrived late in the parade ring due to a mix up with the saddling equipment used by Jockey Boutanive. The latter was told that in future, he should make sure he has the appropriate equipment when saddling his horses. Routine urine specimens were taken for analysis from Destination, Stormy Front and Golden Rambo prior to the race and from Little Gee after the race.
Race 3 - THE BMW - MAURICE MARTIN CUP</B>
The Club’s Veterinary Surgeon reported that National Express was suffering from an inflammation of the trachea and was unfit to race. Consequently, the horse was withdrawn at 8.15 a.m. on Friday. As a result, all bets on this horse were ordered to be refunded and betting with bookmakers was re-opened. Trainer S. Henry was advised that National Express will need to be scoped and passed fit to race by the Veterinary Surgeon before being allowed to race again. At the start, Gdansk, which was unruly in its stall, jumped outwards and was slow out, losing about one length. Major League was slow into stride. When questioned regarding the poor performance of Leatherman, jockey Whitmore stated that since Muhta’s Dancer was travelling better on his outside, he elected to race in second position. However, his mount started racing very fiercely and he had difficulty in settling it, resulting in the horse having a tendency to hang out from the 700 metres and getting tired as from the 400 metres. Mr. Henry was asked why he had not fitted the horse with pacifiers since it had won at its previous starts with the said equipment. He explained that having used the equipment on the horse at track work, both he and his jockey were of the opinion that it resented the equipment. Mr. Henry also stated that he would not be using pacifiers on the horse at its next start. The Club’s Veterinary Surgeon reported that Leatherman was not striding out on the near fore leg. Trainer S. Henry was told that this horse would need a veterinary certificate of soundness before being allowed to race again. Dick Dastardly had a tendency to hang in in the final straight. Routine urine specimens were taken for analysis from Leatherman and National Express prior to the race and from Twoicee after the race.
Race 4 - THE VOLVO CONSTRUCTION EQUIPMENT CUP</B>
At the start Desert Dance jumped inwards, brushing Wise Owl. Near the 1000 metres, Emjaybee, when being settled, shifted in slightly brushing Kestrel. Approaching the 900 metres, when the pace slowed, Tambour Battant started racing fiercely and was taken out off the heels of Kestrel and Emjaybee, Shinealight had to be eased and taken out to avoid the heels of Road Rover. Desert Dance and Road Rover raced wide on the final turn. Routine urine specimens were taken for analysis from Emjaybee and Kestrel prior to the race and from Polish Admiral after the race.
Race 5 - THE LEAL GROUP DUCHESS OF YORK CUP</B>
At the start One For The Road stood flat-footed and was slow out losing about one length. At an inquiry into an incident, jockey Bekker (Nautilus) pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 161 (c) in that near the 1250 metres he carelessly allowed his mount to shift in, resulting in Halidom having to be eased. He was fined Rs.10,000. From the 1100 metres One For The Road started racing very fiercely and approaching the 900 metres, clipped the heels of National Manner, was taken out and allowed to race closer to the lead. Grand Duke raced wide in the back straight, proved difficult to control, had to be taken out and raced wide from thereon. Tabascorez raced wide on the final turn. Shortly after the road, Halidom shifted in slightly resulting in National Manner being cramped for room over one stride and having to be steadied. The Club’s Veterinary Surgeon reported that Nautilus was lame on the near hind leg. In view of this report, trainer G. Rousset was told that this horse will need a veterinary certificate of soundness before being allowed to race again. Routine urine specimens were taken for analysis from Jumpin Joshua prior to the race and from T. Rex after the race.
<B>Race 6 - THE LEAL COMMUNICATIONS & INFORMATICS CHAL CUP</B>
At the start Hector was slow out losing about one length. Flavius raced fiercely from the 1300 metres and approaching the 1200 metres, threw its head up when eased from the heels of Tolstoy which had shifted in when not fully clear. Apprentice Bussunt was shown the video of the incident and told to make sure he is clear of horses before shifting ground. Hundredpercent raced fiercely from the 1100 metres and threw its head up over some distance when being settled off the heels of Flavius. Approaching the 600 metres Methodical Man shifted in despite its jockey’s attempt to straighten it, resulting in Flavius, on its inside, being slightly cramped for room and brushing the running rail. Hector was held up for a run behind Hundredpercent. from the 400 to the 350 metres. The Club’s Veterinary Surgeon reported that Rambo Royale was cut into the near fore cannon bone. In view of this report, trainer G. Rousset was told that this horse will need a veterinary certificate of soundness before being allowed to race again. An inquiry was held into the reason why Methodical Man shifted out on the final turn thus creating a gap for Flavius to go through on his inside. Jockey Jago stated that this horse has a past history of hanging out on the final turn and again proved difficult to control despite his attempt to straighten it. After watching the relevant videos, Jockey Jago was told that in future he is expected to make more of an effort to keep his horse closer to the fence than he did on this occasion. Routine urine specimens were taken for analysis from Flavius and Methodical Man prior to the race.
Race 7 - THE EUROPCAR-ADOLPHE DUCLOS CUP</B>
At the start Mr. Magoo jumped outwards and Gold Guild jumped inwards, both horses coming into contact. Near the 400 metres Gold Guild shifted in abruptly for no apparent reason, hit the running rail, resulting in its jockey injuring his right foot. Peruzzi raced wide on the final turn. At an inquiry it was established that passing the 100 metres Royal Daredevil shifted in slightly, brushing Gold Guild, resulting in the latter shifting in and bumping Horn Beam’s hindquarters. As a result Horn Beam became unbalanced and shifted outwards onto Gold Guild, resulting in the latter having to be checked off the heels of Horn Beam. Jockey Mahadia was shown the video of the incident and told that even though Royal Daredevil had partly contributed to the interference, he was reminded of his obligation to straighten his mounts when they shift ground. Over the concluding stages both Mr. Magoo and Horn Beam shifted out when ridden with the whip. Jockeys Mahadia and Emamdee were shown the video of the incident and told to straighten their mounts when they shift ground. At an inquiry into the riding of Keen To Win in the final straight Jockey Jago explained that his horse had a tendency to hang in for most of the final straight proving difficult to be properly assisted. However, over the concluding stages, with a horse on his inside, his horse straightened and he was able to assist it with his usual vigour. After viewing the relevant films his explanations were accepted. Routine urine specimens were taken for analysis from Frequent Dance and Keen To Win prior to the race and from Mr. Magoo prior to and after the race.
Race 8 - THE BESSIE SURTEES PLATE</B>
Jockey Sampson, who was injured, was replaced on Music Master by jockey S. Mahadia. At the start Captain stood flat-footed, was slow out losing about one length. Scissors was also slow out, and shortly after the start, shifted out and had to be eased off the heels of Music Master. National Trade jumped outwards and Blushing Moon jumped inwards both horses coming into contact. Shortly after the start, Blushing Moon was inconvenienced when cramped for room between National Trade which had continued on an outward movement and Bobby’s Boy which had shifted in. From the 1100 to the 700 metres Amber Streak and Blushing Moon raced fiercely, throwing their heads in the air from time to time. Amber Streak brushed the running rail passing the 600 metres. Shortly after entering the final straight, Captain shifted in away from the whip, resulting in its rider having to change whip from his left to his right hand. Routine urine specimens were taken for analysis from Bobby’s Boy and Music Master prior to the race and from Sun Blast prior to and after the race.
