The Central Criminal Investigation Division (CCID) may have dismantled a network of forged money. After arresting two inhabitants of Cité Kennedy, who had taken four people as hostages, they realised that counterfeit money was behind it. As some of the alleged hostages could be involved in the crime, two are still in police custody for questioning.

Last Thursday, a woman of Cité Kennedy, went to the police to state that her 21 year-old son has not come back from work since Wednesday. He was supposed to be at a friend’s place in Rose-Belle but he had finally told his mother that he was held hostage with three other people and that the kidnappers were asking for a Rs 100,000 ransom. One of the kidnappers had even threatened that the hostages would be killed one by one as from 10 am if she did not pay the money. One of the four hostages had already been freed against payment.

As the case appeared complicated, the police referred it to the CCID, which organised a plan to trap the kidnappers. After being arrested, one of the kidnappers revealed the place where he was keeping the three other hostages. The CID went there and arrested the kidnapper’s father who had been asked to watch the hostages.

Questioned by the police, the hostages confessed that the kidnapper had given them Rs 500,000, which they were supposed to hand to the mastermind. The latter would then give them Rs 1 million of forged banknotes. But the kidnapper had not received anything and he thought he had been swindled. Hence, he had held the four people hostage to put them under pressure…
