<B>From electronics to the cyberdream</B>

His first thought was to make a career in mathematics but he finally turned to computers and technology. Today Seshadri Jayasankar is happy to be the executive director of Numeric Power Systems.

“Quiet” and “reserved” are the two words he would use to describe himself. But, this did not stop Seshadri Jayasankar from adjusting very well to Mauritian society. Settled here since September 1998, Seshadri cannot hide his opinion and feelings about Mauritius and its people. As an Indian expatriate, he thinks those two things helped him to adapt to the island. “According to me, Mauritius is the ideal place where an Indian can settle down. The cultures are very similar and people accept you very easily. Mauritian people are very friendly and very welcoming. Regarding Mauritius itself, its beauty is stunning, it’s one of the most beautiful islands in the world.”

When the Indian company Numeric Power Systems, specialist in the manufacture of UPS systems, decided to create a branch in Mauritius in 2005, Seshadri was working for Samro Systems Ltd. But he was part of the plans of Numeric Power Systems and was asked to join it as executive director to look after its operations in Mauritius. The local branch has for main objective the distribution of UPS systems on the African market. As Numeric Power Systems is known as the best manufacturer of UPS systems, Seshadri accepted the job straightaway.

“Today, my aim is to develop Numeric Power Systems to make it one of the leading companies in the region. Hence, I will spend another four or five years until it is developed. I have been in the field of power electronics for 25 years, this is an area which really fascinates me.”

As most Indian people, watching cricket is one of his hobbies. But when it comes to play rather than watch, tennis and table tennis are what he likes most as he captained his University team in tennis. Besides, he enjoys reading. Indeed, he reads anything he can lay his hands on. And then, depending on the demands of his job, he has to travel a lot, especially in Africa, which is his target market.

Seshadri was born in Chennai in 1955. His mother was a house-wife while his father was a lawyer. He has only one elder brother, who is also a lawyer. Seshadri did both his primary and secondary education in a school called St Patrick’s in Chennai. He then read for a Bachelor of Engineering at Birla Institute Technology Science Pilani in India. He then followed up in the world of computer and technology. In 1981, he married Rajeshari whom he met the same year. From this wedding, two sons were born, Rohit (22) and Sandeep (18).

When Seshadri arrived in Mauritius with his wife and his two sons, they lived in Roches-Brunes for 6 years. They now live in Rose-Hill. Both his sons did their secondary studies in Mauritius but now they both go to University. The eldest son Rohit just finished his BSc Hons in Computer Science in Malaysia whereas Sandeep is doing his BSc in Maths at the National University of Singapore. Hence, Seshadri and his wife are left without their two sons and relatives. However, they have a lot of friends whom they consider as relatives.

Seshadri intends to go back to India. “When” is the question. He has put Numeric Power Systems at the top of his priority for the time being. But he misses his homeland and his mother who lives in Chennai. Though he wants to go back, he is sure that he wants to come back to Mauritius as a tourist.
