The lobby to try and reduce the negative impact of the 36% drop on export sugar prices goes on. This week, a joint parliamentary mission of African, Carribbean and Pacific (ACP) countries and the European Union (EU) is arriving in Mauritius. The delegation will be led by European MP, Glenys Kinnock, known for defending the ACP countries at the European Commission. During the two-day visit, the delegation will meet stakeholders of the sugar industry as well as government members including the prime minister, Navin Ramgoolam. All of them will have to convince the delegation of the importance of the sugar industry in the Mauritian society.
