US President George W. Bush said yesterday that at least one American had been killed in a car bombing in the Pakistani port city of Karachi.

But he said terrorists and killers would not stop him from visiting Pakistan as planned on Saturday.

At least five people died in the blast outside the Marriott hotel and the US consulate. Pakistani police said the dead American worked at the consulate.?I?ve been briefed on the bombings. We have lost at least one US citizen in the bombing, a foreign service officer?, Bush told reporters in the Indian capital New Delhi.?Terrorists and killers are not going to prevent me from going to Pakistan.?

Bush is due to fly to Pakistan on Saturday at the end of a three-day visit to India, his first to the world?s largest democracy.

Bush?s Pakistan visit is seen by analysts as a gesture of support for President Pervez Musharraf, a key ally in the US-led war on terrorism.
