● IVORY COAST. Talks end with no disarmament date. Five days of talks between Ivory Coast?s army and rebel chiefs in the capital Yamoussoukro ended on Saturday with no date set for the start of disarmament in the world?s top cocoa grower. The meeting grew out of a peace deal signed last month in South Africa, which is meant to end civil war in the divided West African country and pave the way for presidential elections open to all in October. At talks in April, both sides had agreed to study a proposal from a national disarmament committee to start handing in guns on May 14. The army and rebels said then that a definite date for disarmament would be set at the Yamoussoukro meeting. However Alain Richard Donwahi, head of the committee, played down the lack of a start date, saying the talks had been positive and that a timetable would be presented to military chiefs from both sides next Friday for approval.
