Honorary title for Pravind Jugnauth

The deputy prime minister and Finance minister, Pravind Jugnauth, has been conferred the title of Doctor Honoris Causa by the Unversity of Buckingham where he studied law. He flew to London last week to receive this distinction given in recognition of his professional career as lawyer, politician, minister and spokesperson of the African Carribbean and Pacific countries in defence of the sugar protocol.

Man sets fire to ex-wife before taking poison

The reasons are still unknown but the facts are there. Ramlall Rucktoowa is suspected of having killed his former partner, Damawantee Khedoo, before committing suicide at Rivière-des-Galets the next day. This crime looks even more surprising as the partners split up ten years ago. He apparently burnt her alive. Relatives say that the suspected killer had said that he would take the life of his former partner. However, as they were no longer in contact with one another, no one can say what brought Ramlall Rucktoowa to commit the crime when he did.

UK Mauritian sentenced to life imprisonment

Mauritian Subodnath Dhoomun has been convicted of the murder of his 24 year-old Tcheck lover, Dana Prokesova, and sentenced to life imprisonment by Judge Forrester in Great Britain. The 39 year-old Mauritian was married to Devi Gangah but he had had a relationship with Dana for about one year. When he realised that it was going to be discovered, he couldn?t stand it and he killed her. After the murder, he tried to escape by flying back to Mauritius but the British police found him. The judge lectured him severely when he pronounced the sentence.
