His ?first 100 days?

A lot is being said these days on the statement of the Leader of the Opposition on what he would achieve during his first 100 days in office, should the Labour government come back to power. Two very important commitments have already been taken by the secretary general of the Labour Party, which, if implemented, would change drastically the Mauritian society.

1. No foreigners will be employed under a Labour government. There are some 20,000 foreigners working in this country. Overnight, the labour government will create 20,000 jobs. All foreign experts, be it at the Customs, CWA, CEB, Airports of Mauritius, Mauritius Telecom, etc? will have to start packing up.

2. All Mauritians who do not possess a piece of land, will be given a piece of land free. Assuming that the Labour Party comes to power in September 2005, the first 100 days will be by the end of December 2005. By early 2006, all Mauritians will be landlords. There will be no tenants at all in this country. The Landlords and Tenants Act will have to be repealed.

It?s so easy to make promises when you are in opposition. This could lead to a boomerang effect. The Leader of the opposition should have learnt his lesson of his running away under heavy escort at the docker?s flat when he was unable to fulfill his promise to change the Docker?s flat into a modern village. I have decided to sell my house since I will benefit a free plot of land to build a new one.

How much will the Leader of the Opposition realize in a 100 days in power which he has been unable to implement in 4 1/2 years in office: (1) payment of 15 % increase to all Public Officers; (2) creation of a second Chamber of parliament (3) creation of the equal Opportunities Commission; (4) creation of the Sex Discrimination Commission; (5) double the PNB in his term of office; (6) solve the Oriental languages issue; (7) introduce the light rail system of transport; (8)re-introduce football; (9) finding suitable homes for all squatters; (10) eliminating the rat race CPE exam.

Just to mention a few.
