Styling “rasta” hair-do’s must be a gift and Géraldine surely has it. Since she opened her hairdressing salon two years ago, she has specialized in plaits, rasta and hair additions. Of course, her fifteen years’ experience in the field helps but she never really set out to learn this technique. “It’s a matter of regularity and self-motivation. I’m personally a hair fanatic. I’ve been teaching hairdressing for more than 10 years to thousands of students but I continue to learn through reading and seeing how things work abroad.”

Géraldine became interested in doing rasta when she went to France. “In France, everyone has a rasta style and they keep it for one week only. It’s very fashionable there.” She is happy to see that Mauritians have also started showing interest. “You might think that people of Creole origin are the only ones who go for this hairstyle but that’s far from being the case. Everyone comes to my salon for a rasta style, even tourists.” She insists on the fact that both men and women are becoming more and more conscious of their physical appearance.
