There are so many versions of the cause of the deaths at Béchard Lane that confusion is now the key word. Several questions remain unanswered so far. Investigators are working on the links this affair could have with land frauds. Evidence found in the house tend to show that Crithika Nundkumar and her lover, Rajesh Dhayam, could have been the perpetrators of the massacre in St.-Paul. The sect theory now seems to be have been discarded. The police are more of the opinion that Crithika’s financial problems led to these deaths.

Investigators have found documents on the site of the tragedy. The latter indicate that identity cards and notary documents may have been forged and used for the purchase and sale of lands. They could have been also used to extort money from powerless people to enrich themselves. A proxy, with the fake signature of Marcel Joson, and dealing with the sale of the plot of land “stolen” from Franck Marion, was found on Rajesh Dhayam.

Two other people were arrested and provisionally charged with having stolen Franck Marion’s plot of land. Bhupendra Auckraj, a policeman, and Jeetendra Jhungee, a homeless man, were arrested in a bungalow in Flic-en-Flac where affidavits, proxies and sales acts were seized. Gita Lutchigadoo was mentioned by the homeless man, who alleged that she was an accomplice in the so-called frauds.

This businesswoman, who used to work with her daughter for notary Deelchand, has however rejected all the accusations. “We have always worked in an honest manner and we have nothing to reproach ourselves.” She has alleged that Jeetendra Jhungee is the one behind all the frauds.

The tenth victim of St.-Paul, Hervé Janvier, also seems to have had links with notaries Joson and Deelchand. This is at least what the arrested policeman said about the victim. He said he knew Janvier under another name: Labonté. The latter had rented a bungalow in Flic-en-Flac for five months before disappearing. He said his relationship with Labonté were only a landlord-tenant one. However, documents bearing the signature of late Rajesh Dhayam were given to the police.

The links between all these affairs seem to be very intricate and confusing. But they all point out to the fact that the “fraudulent transactions” of Crithika Nundkumar and her lover, Rajesh Dhayam, were not up to their hopes and led them to such a desperate move. The police are now trying to have access to the lovers’ bank accounts to try and shed more light on that matter.
